Muriel Keck

Muriel Keck is a violinist/violist and proud alumnus of the Council Bluffs Community School District. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (2017, Master of Music) and the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (2008, Bachelor of Music Education), Muriel has worked with hundreds of students ages 3 to 80+ in a variety of urban and suburban settings.

As a performer Muriel has played and held leadership roles with many ensembles including Orchestra Omaha, the Sarabande String Quartet, the Hastings (NE) Symphony Orchestra, the University of Nebraska Symphony Orchestra, the University of Nebraska Philharmonia, the Omaha Area Youth Orchestra’s Youth Philharmonic and Youth Symphony, and the Iowa All-State Orchestra. During her time at the University of Nebraska, she had the privilege of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City, as well as performing in masterclasses with violinist, Timothy Baker, and violist, Roger Tapping . In 2018 Muriel relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she played with the Redwood Symphony. She returned to the midwest full-time in 2022 and has enjoyed playing in several pit orchestras upon her return.

While she enjoys performing, Muriel’s greatest passion is working with students of all ages. She began teaching privately while still a student at Abraham Lincoln High School in 2003 before beginning her bachelor’s degree in 2004. She taught private lessons and directed an orchestra of second year students through the University of Nebraska String Project while in college. Upon graduation she became an Elementary String Specialist for the Omaha Public Schools, teaching 4th-6th grade students. In 2012 she became an Artist-Faculty member at the Omaha Conservatory of Music (OCM), building a private studio of both violin and viola students of all ages. She was a lead teacher for the first five years of OCM’s String Sprouts program, working with classes of students pre-school age through 3rd grade. After a period of time teaching from her home (and
on Zoom), she looks forward to being back in the studio with new students!
